How mature should the content of my portfolio be?

I am studying graphic design and am in the process of putting together an online portfolio. I though it would be a good idea to add a mascot of sorts on each page (a panda bear wearing gles). In my mind I see it making my portfolio a bit more comfortable and entertaining to view. I am afraid, however, it will be dismissed because of immature content.
